so we need to get the frame by pieces and need to be assembled with our carpenter fixing the glass. Does they give frame by pieces without assembling ,and does the charge remains the same for that assembled piece....

what activities they do in those pieces ? whether they provide with grooves so that we can just fix the glasses in those and assemble . This is important as we need to tell our carpenter what activities he need to do on those frame apart from fixing....

I too visited the as i need doors and he told it is 450 Rs per sqft, so 7*3 dimension doors would cost around 9000 Rs+TAX 14.5% which i see as costly as Honne.Cost wise i am not seeing any advantage in that prespective. They are joining the small pieces of wood together to make this. My question is how strong will it be ,as so many joining pieces are there . Otherwise it looks nice..... If we give the dimension he will give quotation, and it is costly that laminated door which cost around 250 Rs per Sq.ft whic comes to 4200 Rs. so compared to Honne or laminated door there is no cost advantage on this....but compared to teak it is less price same door in teak would roughly cost 18500 to 22000 Rs.
@Raghu: did you got any cost for doors per Sqft,as window shutters is 125 Rs per running feet....? . I still not decided on acasia as that cost we could make Honne doors but we don;t know quality wise acasia as Honne is good as traditionally we go for honne in all the houses where it reliability is known to everybody for long.

Today i had been to Karnataka State Forest Industries Corpn.Ltd (KSFIC) and saw the flush door manufacturing process. Following are the rates displayed along with sample piece.

1st quality Teak wood frame--5'x3'---3"1/2'x7"---~ Rs 12500 + Vat
Teak Door Shutter-45mm---Rs29800 + Vat
Honne door shutter--Rs 9000+vat
Honne door frame-(5'x3")---Rs6000 + vat

Flush door with Teak lamination(.5mm)---Rs 310/sqft

Note: We need to provide the drawings & pay Rs300 for the quotation. They take around 1-1.5months to deliver the finished product.
They take orders only for 1st quality Teak & Honne wood & they dont have Ghana/Assam teak/Neem/Acasia.

Couple of point what i learned on Glulam/Engineered wood
- It's tried and tested process in other countries when you need longer beams over 50ft also
- Sustainable as you use fast grwoing wood

Than i had doub't on the manufacturing process in India, so went around and found that
  • - Geetha timber get all their equipment from Germany and they are only few company in India who are making this product
    - The product is tested at Indian wood research Institute
    - My Architect her self has used this wood on outside (as climbing steps from past two year and it has been exposed to all kinds of weather harsh Sun/Rain/Dirt etc and no cracks expect they lost their polish
    - It treated/season for 24 days before manufacturing
    - They are not using any waste wood exempt only Acasia
Many article mention that Glulam product is more stable/strength than steel itself

Just to make myself more comfortable, i am visiting some house owners who already have used this during this weekend, may put some Photos as well.
Raghu,

I would be of great help to ppl planning to construct home with acasia about your review on visiting house owners.

Thanks,
Ramki

attached the quotes i received from Glulam & UPVC. note that Glulam quote is less because it doesn't include all glass panel/hinges etc

I visited KSFC (Karnataka forestry) in timber yard Mysore road, they do everything in Burma Teak (Manual made, no machine work) and for same size i got Quote for 4,75 lakh

So here cost break up,
UPVC -5,23,623 (Including Installation charges at 35/sqft)
Engineered wood - XXXX (without VAT+other materials, Only Frames and shutter)
Burma Teak- 4,75000 (without VAT, Only Frames and Shutter)

Sorry again no photos yet, i have not yet placed the order ( i am planing to make Main door Frame also in ACASIA). waiting for dome drawing corrections and will order once and upload photos then

regards
Raghu
