Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
how will our carptenter will put the glasses for the window if frames already assembled there. did we have to take frames without fixing ,and come there and get it done by out carpenter after fixing the glass. Is this right way? . I need to tell my carpenter what activities he need to do like fixing so that i can get his total rate quotation for fixing door/windows /glasses?

Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
I feel the rate Rs 220 should be Per Running Feet(rft) not SqFt for frames . For frames SqFt is not the appropriate unit of material .
For example if I consider 1feet of Frame = (60mm H x 120mm W x 300mm L) = 2.16x10^6 Cubic mm , if you convert to Cubic ft ,you will get approx 2800 Rs per Cuft, You can get Burma Teak for same price. Ofcourse this price of 220 may include Machining & Labour.
But I could not see a big Price advantage here with Engineered wood. Can some one explain.

@Nivas
Good questions, i think will ask my architect about same, mean while please do comment on my doubt, as per my estimation sheet from Architect here is what it costs for this window
'
Now i have window of 8ft X 5ft=8+8+5+5=26RFT (Running feet)
8X5 Window (Excluding the cost of all hardware such as hinges, handle, tower bolt, hooks) at 650/SQft or RFT costs = 26X650=16500
Wood required
For Frame=2.6CFT (I am considering only outer frame, if we add another Frame in Middle it will add up more)
For Shutter i will add one CFT + 1CFT more for Mosquito partition shutter (2.5"x1.5"x40x12), i am assuming 40RFT for shutter
so this window will consume 5 CFT of wood? Please correct
@2800/CFT this will be 14000, how much will it cost for Labour, Mosquito mesh, Glass, Steel Rod and Fixing
May be i am not going in right way, please comment and help me if really this engineered wood makes sense in cost wise
Long mail, but hope it will help us decide if this is really cost effective
regards

This including shutter+Frame+Mosquito Mesh on one side+Steel Rod+Clear glass, The running feet costs at 650Rs/ft or RFTSupplying and fixing in position windows (Single shutter) with 5" x 3" Engineered Acasia wood frame and 2.5" x 1.5" Engineered acasia wood for shutters including fixing of 5mm clear glass for one side shutter and Stainless steel mosquito mesh for another side shutter fixed by 1/2" teak wood beading. Providing, fabrication and fixing of MS grill as per the design. Window to be fixed to wall/ RCC works with three MS hold fast/rawl plugs on either sides and top as approved, Including the cost of wood, cost of labour including fixing of fixtures supplied by the owner,, cost of machinery and equipments, loading and unloading, transportation, lead and lift etc., complete as directed. (Excluding the cost of all hardwares such as hinges, handle, tower bolt, hooks etc)
Now i have window of 8ft X 5ft=8+8+5+5=26RFT (Running feet)
- - One CFT wood= 12"x12"x12"=1728 Cubic Inch
- Window Frames we are going to use in running feet (5"x3"x12")=180 Cubic Inch which is equal to .104CFT
- Wood consumption for 8x5 Window, for 26 RFT it will 26x.104=2.7CFT this is for Frame Only, not sure how to calculate for shutter Glass etc appreciate help on this

Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
Raghu,
I am assuming that your window is something like this, in the attached pdf according to me ,
Dimensions & corresponding Rft calculations are like this :
a)Window Frame (60mm x 120mm) = 5 ft * 5 + 8ft *2 = 41 Rft x 250 Rs
b)Window Shutter (Side Rail, 68mmx32mm) = 16 * 4.5ft + 16 * 1.8ft = 100 Rft x 85 Rs
c)Window Center Mullion( 40mmx32mm) = 4.5ft * 4 + 1.8*8 = 33 Rft x 60 Rs
d)Twenty 12mm Hex Rods = 5ft x 20 x 25 Rs (inclusive of drilling + steel)
So total cost = 23k Rs + VAT + Excise duty + Fitting Glass Labour+ Glass Raw Material + Hinges + MS Holds + Bolts + Polish\Paint....
The above are indicative prices for the calculation alone (I believe they are closest to today's market), It is always good to get a detailed split up prices instead of lumpsum per SqFt of window Area. I did not calculate the Cuft wood required ,you can convert the dimensions.
Let me know if this helps , Please share your calculations ,let me know what i calculated is different from what you got from your architect.

Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
Can anybody tell me, what is the market price for electrical work (labour only). One person quotes Rs1800/sqaure which includes any number of points, ups connection etc., Is it right price?. What is the market price and the scope includes what and all?. Thanks in advance.
Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
We visited Geetha timbers yesterday. Engineered Acacia is strong, looks good and there are no restrictions as to where you should drill or nail etc. Overall very impressed. The cost of a 32mm thick door would be Rs 450/- per sft and a 5" x 2.5" or 6" x 2" door frame would be Rs. 230/- per rft. They supply material in raw condition. You can either choose to paint it or polish it with different shades. They need a drawing and a lead time of 1month to supply the material.
Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
That's a great news, i think the community can look for this sustainable option instead of TEAK only. we have sent the requirement to Geetha timbers so waiting for Quotes, i have also sent request for UPVC, but that seems like costly option if we choose WOOD TEXTURE OPTION (almost 50% more price than white for Teak/Mahogany color)
Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
1) Is those doors are with design or just plane where we need to make our carpenter to do the work for design after taking the pieces?
2) What is suggestion to fix the glass, does they have carpenter who can fix them so that we can directly transport/fix?

Re: Engineered Acasia for Window/Door
Folks, sorry for the delayed response.
1 Someone had asked for pictures of the painted doors, I don't seem to have any, will try to find one and post it.
2. Regarding the products - geetha timbers delivered the finished doors, only thing is, they provided it slightly longer (or should I say taller) than the actual measurement, just as a precaution. It is possible to cut up to 3" on either end to make it fit the frame (without affecting the integrity of the door). The finished product is completely as per design and all that is necessary to adjust the height and fit to the frame.
3. Regarding glass, I had some doors that have glass panels, they don't fix it for you, your carpenter will have to do that. (but I only got doors, so have no idea about how it is done for windows). And they don't provide the glass either, you have to get it separately.
Hope this helps.
