Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
Hello to All,
Back after a short break, busy with some other business project.
Construction work started once sand supply started after calling off the strike, though we got one load of sand the very next day it was not at all good in quality with lots and lots of pebbles and stones( kapi in their lingo ) and it is very rough and dry , it did not looked like sand at all to me.. . Of course I have little knowledge about the quality of sand to decide so....
On complaining the same to the builder , the reply right from the writer to senior engineer is same it's for roof concrete and suits well for that.
This time they planned for on site mixing for the roof ( second roof in total of four) but at the last moment they changed to RMC because of two reasons
# The BESCOM line is running in front of the house and it's about 3.5 ft from the edge of shuttering, so little bit of risky to fit the conveyor lift.
# The roof is in multi levels ( three different levels in total), so not possible to move around the trolly on the roof.
I accepted for RMC on looking at the sand quality, it is so hopeless.
and finally on Saturday (25/01/2014) we did the roofing with RMC and this time luckily there was no surface cracks problems as we had in the previous roofing.
But this time they ordered about one cubic meter short than required ,some wrong calculations while estimating it seems. And immediately they mixed manually at the site using that so called sand.
Here are few pics taken during roofing.

Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
Hi All,
Please advise on the Solid blocks. Went to Harohalli (Basant Betons) and got below quotes.
8”Solid block-Rs-61/Nos.6”solid blocks-Rs.50.00/Nos.4”solid block-Rs.33/Nos (Costlier than apco) & a report from Civil aid about their blocks (Attached it for your reference).
My Mastri (Mason) accompanied me to this factory and was zapped with the quality and finishing of the blocks and is strongly recommending that i use those blocks as i will save a lot of money on cement and sand.
Please advise.
Thanks
Vijay Thapa

Go for AVS solid blocks near to attibele.. Best blocks in Quality wise. 6 inch block price is 32 or 33. Heard that they will do curing each block for one month.

Re: My Dream House Construction Experience
Hi Rajesha,
For that matter of fact i have a local Block manufacturer and Vendor just 2 KM from my construction site, he is charging the same, however my mastri suggested that Basant blocks are 1000 times better...after visiting Basant visited Apco office and saw their blocks as well...not impresed with their blocks.
I am confused....

Sunil-
Can you share details of the guy you got wood from ?
Btw, is it true that they charge for 'planing' the wood ? What else do they charge - VAT ? anything else (transportation ??)
Wondering if I can find the total cost for say one cft of each wood...thanks

Yes, you rightly said that during sand crisis getting RMC is also a tough job.
The difference between White and Red sal wood is,
both will shrink little bit and can develop sun crack. White sal is harder than Red sal and other wise both are fine for frames.
I paid Rs.3500 for Burma teak,
Rs.2200 for Ghana teak
Rs.1250 for White sal.
