Re: Flooring concerns
I agree that granite does look nice, but maintenance work for that is higher. We recently finished our house. I was advised not to use granite for kitchen (as it will pit with acidic residues from our cooking). So in the process, I have a mix of vitrified tiles (kitchen and dining area) and granite (living room) all in one open floor plan. Based on how it appears after all the work is done, I like the vitrified better. So much easier to clean up. THe granite took a lot more cleaning work from the construction team (some acid wash etc.) and then still I see it not as shiny and bright as the vitrified. Besides, the tiles comes in so many beautiful colours and finishes, I wish I had decided on the same for living room as well.
Cost wise, granite was more expensive than vitrified.
don't know if this helps or not, but just wanted to share my thoughts anyways.

Re: Flooring concerns
Hi,
I am planning to construct my house and was discussing with my contrator, where he suggested me to use wooden floors in Bed rooms and in the family room. As per him, it will cost less. No idea what wood would be used for the same. But he said, it will give a better aesthetic look, and can be replaced easily when ever needed, if anyone would like to have a change in their house after a few years. This method will cost less. Any idea?
Do you think wooden flooring costs less? If so, can anyone suggest what kind of wood should be used for the same?

Re: Flooring concerns
wooden floors do look nice (as long as they stay scratch free). It is suitable for places where there is low humidity and dust. YOu need to maintain it such that there are no scratches. Cannot mop like you would a normal floor (with water and all). Not sure it is suitable for Bengaluru or anywhere in the tropical / dusty areas.ramks1982 wrote:Hi,

Thank you folks, Yes i do realise the short life of the wooden floors, and also concerns of mopping and all...but how is its relativity to costs against other flooring materials.

Re: Flooring concerns

Re: Flooring concerns
Hi all
Recently I had my new house laid with vitrified tiles. These tiles cost me Rs.85- per sqft. I see a lot of bend on the tiles. When I told this to the vendor he said that 1mm bends are very common. At another shop I found a display which said that 1mm bend can be expected in many tiles. Is this true ? Any way I had my floor done. But still out of curiosity and also to warn the forum members if I was cheated, I am asking.

Hi ,
Bend in tiles is a common problem even in the best brands.particularly in bigger sizes like 2'x2',2'x4' .
We have seen worst bends in truely Italian imported tiles too.
