laminate vs veneer

Post by ardesarchitects »

Hi......
Trying to post my previous posting info about construction, hope it helps

There is absolutely no issues in using laminate, but you should be careful in executing it in proper place and design. Since the laminate joints cant be patched up like veneer. You should be very care full in the corner joints, since laminate thickness is very less and you need to chamfer on both edges to get a proper joint. In present market there are very less carpenter doing these kind of joints.
Few precautions
1. Opt for maximum thickness available laminate
2. Plan early for joints locations, try to avoid in predominantly seen areas.
3. Use groove joints when joining between two different materials like steel & laminate
4. Laminate corner joints will be very very sharp, so use it in sensible areas only
5. Try to do patch less works
6. Choose laminate shades depending up on there exposure to light and lighting levels required inside the room
7. For kitchen don’t go for any textured laminates, very difficult to clean the oil mixed dusts
8. As you know laminate can’t be re polished unlike veneers, so don’t use it in heavy traffic areas like dinning tables, table tops etc……
