Hi Prince,

The Current cost of Wood/Cft

1) Honne : 1900 - 2200
2) White Sal : 1100 - 1300
3) Burma Teak : 6250 - 7000
4) Ghana Teak : 2500 - 3000
5) Burma Border Teak : 3500 - 5000

Please note for Cut Pieces the rate will be less, For Wood Log the rate is high due to Wastage. Visit some 4-5 Timbers around Mysore Road you will get good knowledge on Wood and better price you will get.

Additionally you will have to pay the cutting & Planeing charges for the Wood (If you purchase wood logs)

Don't go for Red sal as it is prone to bend and quality is not good.
Gum sal wood was good but now a days it is not coming and best low cost wood.

Thanks Swamy.

I was planning to use White sal for Frames and Honne for shutters.
What is the difference between Burma Teak and Burma Border Teak?

Hi,

Burma Teak is 1st Grade Teak wood which will have length upto 30-40 Feet (Wood logs). They are bigger in Overall size.
Burma Border teak is 2nd Grade Teak wood which will have length upto 7 - 8 Feet.

Usually Material Contractor's claims they put Burma Teak but actually they put Burma Border for house which is less in price.
If you need more clarity please check out at Timber yards you will come to know the difference of these two. Take care during discussion.

Hi,
The fact is that there is no burma teak available in market. If some one is selling it, its at a range above 7000-8000 per cft literally.
Burma has banned any export of logs from the country for last 2 years now. Burma border teak is nothing but Indian teak that are small in log sizes (both length and width )
Currently in the market its Ganna teak, hunsur teak that is widely sold @ nothing less than 4000/- cft

Ar.Praveen
So in material contract , if teak wood is mentioned, what would be the reference rate that v have to look for. Is 4000/cft, good enough for main door , or should v insist hunsur teak

Hi,

In the Material Contract, if teak wood is mentioned they usually quote 4000 - 5000 for Ghana Teak only, they will get some readymade Teak wood doors which cost from 25K to 30K from Timber yard and gave to Customers. All contractor have huge margins in Wood.

Always insist you will visit to Timber yard when they place the order and check the Quality and workmanship of Doors as per specified price in Contract.
