Hi All ,

Which wood is best for doors and windows ? Honne , Red sal , Gum sal ?

What is the kannada name for Red sal , Gum sal ?

Any idea what are the current prices of each of them?

Hi,

We used white sal for door frames and window frames. For the window shutters, we used honne. All these will be painted and not polished

For the main door and main door frame people generally use teak. For the room doors etc., you can go for good quality ready made doors

About 6-8 months back, I had paid 1350 per cft for white sal and about 2000 per cft for honne. Burma teak was about 6000 per cft but I think current prices are much higher for teak atleast

Which wood is more termite resistant ? Will the Sal wood better for bathroom ?
As we all know , in bathroom doors comes in contact with water always.

I checked prices,
Redsol 1200/cft
Honne 2000/cft
African teak 3000 - 3500/cft
Teak 6500/ cft

I went with 3 qualities
1) Neem or Beavu Only for windows frame (Best one for windows frame, but difficult to get and choose proper one) Low budget 700-900 rs cft Cannot be polished(Only Paint)

2) Sal for Door Frames (Best for Door frames) - 1200 cft Cannot be polished(Only Paint)

3) Teak for Main Door (Mid or High budget) - 6000 cft - Can be polished
