@blrsiteseeker n shridhark thank u very much for helping me in this regard
all the things u guys advised me is 100% true ......mestri or babending guys advise for ther advantage ....bardening guy save money on labour and the work will be easier for them if i go for lesser size(rods) they hav to bend cut lot of hardwork is involved n if i reduce from 4tons to 3tons there work will be easier and also he say that in sale building they wont use much steel 30% lesser compare to us ....even the mestri suggested me to not go for structural drwaing just working plan is enough and also complete supervision for building ...however i decided to complete plan and drawings and each n every stage they advise me me to go for lesser brand or quality or even some work which they can save labour cost andalso i might save some money ......so far im supplying good building materials birla super or isi steel jelly river sand and havnt compromised in building materials however i have compromised on wood n flooring materials but we r not much satisfied with his work ...recently the centring guy havnt done properly for plinth beam and n the shape n thickness havnt not come properly it should be 6 inches thickness but less in some place n more and packing of concrete is not proper in some places wher steel rods is visible again he didsome patch work and for uneven shape he will correct while constructing wall ....now it is getting difficult to make them to deliver good work also
on tv yesterday there was a news that 3 storied underconstruction buiding collapsed due to poor work and quality and ther was no plan sanction from bbmp

Re: estimate for Steel based on structual drawings
Very true....onething that we forget is that these Architects and Civil Engineers study these construction and associated practices for 4 years in college. And if engineering was something that a mestri could do without going to school, then the entire world must be a fool to have Engineers and Architects.
@ maheshvivid2003 As for your beam and packing problem if the quantity of steel is ok and the concrete mix is proper then you should be fine with no strength issues, it will only be a facial problem that can be corrected. As for the steel visible, one must make sure that the concrete pouring is done along with proper vibrator usage.
Although dont worry if minor problem is there in my opinion, it should be fine as my consultant says that as per the specified rules of design 1.5 times factor of safety is taken in construction of buildings so you dont need to worry since you have used right quantity of steel and good quality too.

@shridhark thank very much
they didnt use vibrator for beam just stick for packing n for footing they used for 4 colums n for rest they didnt use n later machine wasnt working...lil worried abt moulding ....i will make sure that everything is in place before moulding
@shridhark how much steel did u use for moulding

There is something called experience, which 4 years of college will not teach you. Mestri/ barbenders charge for the Sq/ Feet of the construction & sometimes bar benders also charge on the tonnege. The less you use, the less is charged. There have been numerous instances where the engineers/ architects backed out of the projects & the same old/ new contractors had to complete...anyways, its your money & your wisdom !!shridhark wrote:Very true....onething that we forget is that these Architects and Civil Engineers study these construction and associated practices for 4 years in college. Surely Boss!!! But try talking to one of your mestry to give you an idea of how steel would vary in case you want a concealed beam or an extra large clear span or even if a cantilever section, it will be an eye opener for you.m3_07 wrote: There is something called experience, which 4 years of college will not teach you. As for the actual design, I happened to lay my hands on Standard codes for steel and although I could not really understand much of the technical stuff, what I found was that mestris dont even put proper rings as per standards which is very crucial for a building to sustain any seismic action. Try talking to your mestri about his experience in ensuring earthquake resistant structures.
As for the money, ofcourse I dont mind spending little extra on steel because I know that extra is going in my building and is staying with me. I am not the person who would want a ferrari body with a 800cc engine inside on the race day!!! If you get what I mean!!!!
Re: estimate for Steel based on structual drawings
HI All,
Thanks for your replies.
Just a background info ....
My house construction is completed and I need to settle the final bill to my contractor. He has given the Bills. I want to confirm whether t he amount of steel he has mentioned in the bill is as per the structural drawings ( and not over quoted).
I've the structural drawing details in PDF format. If some one could provide me with the Bar bending Schedule in Excel sheet with all the calculation details, it would be of great help for me.
I'm ready to pay the appropriate fees.
With BBS details, I can talk to my contractor with concrete evidence(in case of discrepancy).
Please do the needful.
Regards,
Venu

Re: estimate for Steel based on structual drawings
Hi,
Steel consumption for 1050 SFT mould area was ~1.6 ton for each mould of G+3 structure design. My mason and bar bender were telling steel consumption is more. I would like know from the experts that, whether this consumption is normal or abnormal ?
