Wall Cladding

Post by bkvenu »

Hi,

I want to know how the cladded walls are been maintained? I mean, if we have the walls cladded with stone or tiles after some years exposed to sun and pollution the charm of the materials comes down.
On the other hand if we normal wall, we can just paint the walls and finish off, we can get a new fresh look for the house.
But my question is.., Is the maintainance cost for these cladding materials will be less, equal or more than the cost of paint? & Do we easily get people to do this kind of maintainance work?
I know that cladding enhance the look of the house; I am planning to go for cladding of the outer wall and if budget permit, some of the inner walls also.
But my worry is the maintainance & its cost after some years.
Can anyone share the details if they have?

Regards
Venu

depends on what you clad with. Brick cladding or stone cladding - look good for many many years. It does not look worse with exposure to weather elements. In terms of maintenance, you won't need much, perhaps a good wash every few years (to remove dust) and that shoud be it.
So in short, maintenance is much cheaper than regular wall, which will need painting every few years.

(I am not an expert, but am talking from experience - our house has a brick front and in 16 years, we probably power washed it 2 times), it still looks as good as the day we bought the house.)

Hi,
Blrsiteseeker is true a wall cladding will look good just by giving it a good wash. For rough stone you need to go for acid wash to remove solid dust settled in the gaps. The same with mild acid for exposed brick. There are lot chemicals available in market to keep the cladding surface dust repellent for longer time.

Hi Praveen,

Can you please give me the details of the materials that can be used for cleaning of Wirecut bricks? We don not want to paint these bricks. But clean and have a silicone based transparent paint applied post construction and cleaning. Also if you can give contact details of a contractor who can do the cleaning of these bricks

Thanks

Hello,
I am currently checking all options for wall cladding near main entrance/main door. I have seen people use black granite or wall cladding tiles for this purpose.

I am thinking of using Italian marble, can it be used for this? is there anything I have to take care of.
