Defect liability period

Hi

What is the usual duration for the defect liability period for civil construction
of a regular house in India or Bangalore?

I want it to be 3 years in my contract with the engineer but he says its only 6 months.

Any pointers?

ours was 1 year - that is usual because that way the house has gone through 1 cycle of all the seasons and you can see the performance through that.

I had put 3 years in the contract document, however contractor was not ready for more than 6 months. This also goes for retention amount too.
