Soil Testing

Need some advice from the Forum about Soil testing, I am in the verge of starting construction, and my contractor tells me that by gauging the soil with bear it can be decided the quality of soil and how deep escavation needs to be and other related items. But I am in favour of doing a proper soil testing and then decide. Please do share your thoughts, will definetly help me decide!

Hi ,
Soil test is required only in case it fails the initial visual testing.Since in most residential projects you can see the base soil on which footing is resting there is no necessity for soil testing.
With good practical experience one can say if the soil is hard /moderate /loose

Hi Sun,

proper soil testing is needed if there is any black cotton soil (loose) or site being used as dumping construction debris etc.

for 30X40, 60X40 in bangalore in a decent layout, one wont need soil testing, if you are sceptical, get soil test done. excavation depth = 5 feet.

site will be divided into grid and soil samples will be taken from diff grids and then if there is a variation of soil bearing capacity, structural engineer will advise you accordingly.

thank you for the input guys. this specific layout used to be paddy fields once upon a time, hence I was little worried
