Is this only for labour or also materials like cement and sand?

It's for the whole job (material + labour). One-sided.

My contractor has been taking me for a long ride, but if it helps anyone here to feel better, here are my rates.

Ceiling plastering (lime rendered) 22.50

Internal walls plastering (lime rendered) 21.50

External wall plastering (Sponge finish) 22.50

I am guessing this includes material cost with cement fixed at Rs.250 per bag(when the prevaling rate was Rs.300, another scam by these contractors to fleece you)

Can some one please explain what is this lime rendered. Architect has a sudden realization(was sleeping during estimate)
that he wants another kind of plastering, sorry can't recollect what its called but costs Rs.8 more per sqft.

My contractor has quoted the following rates and he was not willing to reduce even 1 or 2 rupees from these rates and said most people quote low rate because they use filter sand for plastering and I am not sure how true it is. I see that plastering rates are in a really wide range and could some experts throw some light on what is the correct rate?.

Details:
3/4 inch plastering, All joints of different material need to done with extendable meshwork. Material cost of mesh to be borne by the owner. River sand and Ramco 43 OPC cement to be used.

Ceiling, beams, columns plastering inclusive of lime rendering in 1:4 CM mix: Rs 32 per sqft
All other plastering work in 1:6 CM mix: Rs 30 per sqft.

My experience is that do not go for lime rendering. Later you can cover it with cement based birla putty, which does not require primer application also. So you save on lime/labour/primer during painting. Your work will be faster also.

Guys, Lime makes your walls breathe and reduces the formation of crack. I dont think such traditional methods can be compromised by birla. if you are spending so much lime rendering option should be considered. Dont consider this unless someone provides a strong technical viewpoint.
