single phase or three phase connection - which is better?

Hi,

I am planning to take permanent electric connection to my house.
Usually which phase (single or three) is good and why?

And I need to put motor pump for my borewell which is around 350ft depth.

Street electricity wirings will be in 3 Phase.

Connections to residential usage is always single phase only.

3 phase is meant for heavy duty high power/commercial/industrial applications.
