Lake freed of encroachment

Structures in Horamavu Lake cleared by BUDA
Nearly four acres of encroached land worth over Rs. 24 crore was recovered on Friday by the Bangalore Urban district administration.
According to a release here on Saturday, land in Horamavu Lake of East division had been encroached upon by private parties who forged documents and converted it into a residential layout (Hoysala Nagara Stage 1 and 2).
The officials have booked criminal cases against three persons who sold the sites to several people. Several residential apartments, a private school, around 50 houses, a brick kiln and a few small scale industries had come up here.
On Friday, a team of officials with help from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) task force demolished the structures on the land. It was fenced and handed over to the BDA. G.C. Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore Urban district, said that 14 of the 34 acres of land in Horamavu Lakehave been encroached. Land sharks have filled the lake with debris and waste material. The BDA task force and local police provided heavy security during the demolition drive, which witnessed protests by local residents.
Criminal cases pertaining to encroachment of government land was filed against Rajanna, Puttanna and Nagraj at the jurisdictional police station, Mr. Prakash said.
