Hi
There is an architect in Bangalore who is famous for mud blocks and eco friendly constructions. Her name is Chitra Vishwanath and the company is biome. You can try discussing with them to get contact of labourers etc. Not sure how easily they would share the info though.

Re: Exposed bricks
1. I do not see any reason why you cannot have 2 floors of exposed brick. I have some walls made of exposed brick, and they are one on top of the other. 2. Wirecut bricks cost almost double that of normal bricks. I think I paid Rs. 13 per brick. 3. I got couple of coats of matt finish PU coating don...

Re: How far the Harvesting pit should from the Borewell casi
I had reached out to rainwaterclub.org during my constructions. According to them, there is no recommended distance. It could be close to the borewell. Here are the complete list of Qs that I had posted to them and their answers. They have some experts in the field, and I think the responses are rel...

Re: Solar water heaters
As per my research , i found that if hardness (Ca and Mg) is more than 140ppm we should go for FPC with heat ex-changer , otherwise we can go for basic one. If Chloride level is more than 100 ppm than we should use ETC only. Tata and Racold don't have heat ex-changer models. ..... Bhushan Can you p...

Re: Home interior work advice
I got quotes for getting all wardrobes made by a factory (no carpenter). I have got quotes ranging from Rs. 950/sft (using local commercial ply with one sided laminate) to Rs. 1250 per sft (using Green Ply, commercial grade, not water proof, and both side laminate, with hettich/ebco fittings). I pla...

Re: construction in 2400 sqft plot
One guy has constructed 5 floors on a 30x40 site in Meenakshi Layout, off Bannerghatta road. Just imagine if that building falls, 2-3 houses next to it are in danger!
So looks like the question is not, how many can be constructed legally, it is how many you want to construct.

Re: Price hike in Construction Material?
Yes. My supplier said there is a price hike of Rs. 6 to 10 per bag. I usually buy Coramendal 53 (325/bag) / PPC (315/bag)

Re: Cement wardrobes and kitchen shelves
The cement shelves will be made by the mason while constructing the house itself. The carpenter then will just make a frame and shutter structure over this. This will work out cheaper, since the carpenters charge lesser for frame and shutter compared to box making.

Re: Is RWH madatory
It is mandatory. And forget if the government mandates or not. If one wants themselves and their future generations to have some water, they would do it sincerely without being mandated by the govt. If you want a water seepage pit, you have to dig and place concrete rings. I paid Rs. 800 per ring of...

Re: Kitchen counter slab height?
I have seen counters in the range of 30.5" to 32". I think most go with 32". But you can adjust it to your convenience.
36" I think would too high for cooking, chopping etc, considering the average height of Indian women.
